Theme: all day long
This week’s wine down and chill theme goes far beyond sipping pink wine all day. It’s about hope, taking one step forward then three steps back. Falling down and getting back up again to do it all over. One. More. Time. All day long, scraping and hauling, day after day, until, one day, through tenacity, unyielding perseverance and a mega ton of effort, something changes. Things get better.
Listen: Love is a Rose
Linda Rondstadt comes in at the top of the list for songs with “rose” in the title based on user votes. For other songs to lift you up, take a look at the playlist here.
Learn: National Rosé Day
It’s been a while since we featured a rosé here at wine down and chill. We were overdue. And the timing couldn’t be better given that tomorrow is National Rosé Day. Oddly enough, the holiday was not initiated by an American winery; it was launched in 2015 in the Hamptons by a posh French boutique wine company, Bodvar House of Rosés. Tomorrow marks the 5th Anniversary of the annual celebration of “summer’s water.” It’s a clever marketing effort; their marketing is brilliant. Even their Instagram page is top shelf.
Here’s the good news. You don’t have to spend a fortune or travel to France to enjoy rose all day. Today’s wine down and chill selection will make you giddy with joy. Bubbles do that to everyone, don’t they?
Wine: Riondo Rosé
Call it pink bubbles of happiness. Or call it the treat that you deserve at the end of the day after writing thousands of words. Whatever you call it, keep it handy on your wine down and chill summer rotation because this wine’s a gas! Riondo Rosé hails from Terlato Wines in Italy. We’ve previously featured Riondo Prosecco as another wine down and chill favorite. In fact, it was the featured wine selection of our very first column – 67 columns ago! Clearly, they’ve got bubbles figured out.
Riondo Rosé is perfect to wine down and chill or rosé all day
This full-sparkling wine down and chill favorite is fresh with a delicate hint of roses and, I’m not kidding, bubble gum. Merlot grapes are the varietal used to create this perfectly balanced pink bubbly. Grapes are macerated in the cold, natural fermentation proceeds then the wine is fermented under pressure in steel tanks for 30 days until it’s ready for us to enjoy.
Dine: spice it up
There is something about the wine down and chill combination of a rosé paired with something spicing and sizzling. Today’s suggestion is curried veggies over quinoa. Fresh or frozen veggies, quickly steamed then mixed with ridiculous amounts of fried onions and garlic, sloshed in a jar of curry sauce is all that you need. Cook up a batch of tricolor quinoa as the base for the curried veggies then sit down, it’s time to wine down and chill and rosé all day.
Watch: Wild Rose
With everything going on in the world, wine down and chill understands that we need hope as much as we need change. The 2019 award-winning movie, Wild Rose, featuring ingenue Jessie Buckley, and the talented Julie Walters, is a brilliant portrayal of the endless battle between hope and hardship. A Scottish (Glaswegian) single mother of two and ex-convict, believes that her destiny is to be a country singer. She puts all of her efforts into realizing her dream of going to Nashville.
It’s the weekend. Time to wine down and chill. Cheers!
